The health resort and military sanitorium established by the British in the early 19th century was later converted into a “little English Village” by Sri Samuel Baker in 1847,when he brought with him animals, plants, equipment and experts in the farming field and created an agricultural village-today it is known as Nuwera Eliya, “The Little England” due to the colonial English style buildings and atmosphere that has been preserved till today.
Nuwera Eliya Post Office
The pink bricked post office building at Nuwera Eliya, together with its charming clock tower is a beautiful building designed and built by the British in the year 1884, reflecting Victorian style architecture.
